Laura English

Vice President and Chief Financial Officer - Kaiser Permanente Colorado

 Laura English is a seasoned senior healthcare executive who began her career in healthcare almost 25 years ago as part of a contract negotiation team consulting to the Department of Defense healthcare program that serves the active duty military, reservists, and retirees.  In 2000, after four years, Laura moved into the commercial and Medicare healthcare industry in Finance at PacifiCare of Colorado.  She worked within several functional areas of PacifiCare and managed the Finance team for the region including Texas and Oklahoma, and later directed financial operations for mid-sized employer groups across eight PacifiCare states.  PacifiCare was acquired by UnitedHealth Group in 2005 and in 2007, she became the Chief Financial Officer with UnitedHealthcare for markets including Arizona, Colorado, New Mexico, Montana and Wyoming serving over 1m members and managing over $2B in revenues.  Laura also worked closely with the Individual Exchanges in both Arizona and Colorado.

In 2016, Laura became Vice President and Chief Financial Officer at Kaiser Permanente Colorado where she serves as a key member of the executive leadership team working closely with the Colorado Permanente physician group to manage care for over 660,000 members.  She also leads the finance teams including Revenue Cycle, Hospital Contracting, Financial Planning and Analytics, Supply Chain, and Accounting.  She manages over $4m in revenues at KPCO to provide care and coverage through an integrated delivery system with over 1,200 physicians.  

Laura is active in the community and has served on several boards in the Denver.  She served on the Board of Directors for the Denver Hispanic Chamber of Commerce, the Aurora Public Schools Foundation, the Denver Workforce Investment Board and was the 2011 Chair of the Denver Hispanic Education Foundation where she developed and launched their Leadership program.  She also served on the Level One Society, a Denver Health Foundation affiliate focusing on child and adolescent mental health.  She currently is on the board for Metropolitan State University Denver Foundation and the Denver Metro Chamber Leadership Foundation.

Laura earned a Political Science bachelor’s degree in International Relations from California State University in Chico, California, with minors in French and European Studies.  She received her graduate degree with a master’s in Business Administration from the University of Colorado in Denver.  Laura grew up in North Carolina and in California, and briefly lived in both Italy and Belgium. She has lived in the Denver metro area since 1995.  She is married to Sean Kness, an emergency physician, and together they have four wonderful and active sons.
