Dr. Michael G. Davis
Head of School, Colorado Academy

Dr. Mike Davis was appointed in 2007 as the eleventh Head of School in Colorado Academy’s more than 100 year-history. In the past eight years, he has led the CA community in a collaborative, multi-year strategic plan, undertaken a broad-reaching school culture project, led the effort to build CA’s new Upper School, implemented a series of 21st century curriculum initiatives, expanded CA’s experiential and global education offerings and service learning efforts, broadened the school’s work in diversity and inclusivity, introduced a 1:1 iPad Learning Initiative across all divisions, and maintained CA’s mission-based balance of academics, arts, and athletics.

Davis came to CA after serving as Head of the Upper School at St. Stephen’s Episcopal, a co-ed boarding and day school in Austin, Texas. There, he also chaired the History Department, the Curriculum Committee, and directed the school’s outdoor education program. An outdoor enthusiast, rock climber, skier, and cyclist, Davis continues to lead student adventures and has logged nearly 100 outdoor trips, from the canyons of Utah to the mountains of rural Haiti.

Known for his subject-matter expertise, he is a frequent presenter at the National Association of Independent Schools conferences on topics such as "21st Century Learning Outcomes as a Framework for Creating a Culture of Meaningful Service-Learning and Student Leadership," and "International Travel Programs: Identifying and Managing Risks." In Colorado, he serves on the Association for Colorado Independent Schools Accreditation Committee, chairing and co-chairing school evaluation teams and establishing school standards.

At CA, Dr. Davis teaches Upper School elective courses in History and Leadership, including "Vietnam," the "War on Terror," and "Leadership and Ethics." He also teaches a "Life, Leadership, and Legacy" seminar course to all juniors at CA.
